B.C. saw 50 new COVID-19 cases and one death Friday

50 new virus cases, 1 death

British Columbia has once again had the largest single-day increase in COVID-19 cases since April 28, with 50 new cases announced Friday. Nine of the new cases come from the Interior Health region.

The new cases bring the total positive tests in B.C. to 3,641, 369 of which have come the Interior. Active cases in B.C. have increased to 278, but there remains five hospitalizations and two people in intensive care.

A new COVID-related death was also announced in the Vancouver Coastal Health region Friday, bringing the province's total to 195.

A new outbreak has also been declared at Burnaby's Dania Home, a long-term care facility. There are now two long-term care homes and one acute care facility with active outbreaks in the province.

"There continues to be additional community exposure events across the province,” Dr. Bonnie Henry said in a written statement Friday.

"This weekend, let's play safe and stay safe while COVID-19 remains in our communities.”

Earlier Friday, Interior Health announced there have now been 137 cases linked to Kelowna since June 26, seven more than Thursday. The majority of these cases stemmed from a single group of tourists in Kelowna over the Canada Day long weekend.
