Service BC employees providing check ins for those self-isolating

Checking in on self-isolators

Self-isolation check ins aren't just a new part of the job for employees of Service BC, they're also a privilege, says the organization.

For the past few months, Service BC employees have adapted their role to incorporate providing assistance to returning travellers and temporary workers beginning a 14-day isolation plan.

The effort is in partnership with Emergency Management BC and the Ministry of Health

Minister of Citizens Services, Anne Kang, says the mandatory self-isolation can be challenging for some.

"Being in self isolation can be difficult for many, especially those who have been away from B.C. for a long period of time or for temporary foreign workers who have left their friends and families behind to fill much-needed roles in B.C.

"I'm proud the people at Service BC who have been working hard to ensure people's health and safety and for providing returning travellers and temporary foreign workers with a measure of comfort and kindness while they complete their 14-day isolation period. They are truly providing service with heart."

Since isolation plans became mandatory for international arrivals to B.C., more than 8,500 phone calls have been made by Service BC employees to temporary foreign workers to provide information and make referrals.

As of July 23, over 51,000 calls have been made to confirm self-isolation plans are being adhered to, and many of these travellers reported appreciation for the human connection.
