Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup relaunches amid COVID-19

Shoreline cleanup relaunch

The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup has officially relaunched with new COVID-19 safety protocols after being put on hold for nearly four months.

The cleanup has relaunched with solo, household and small teams after all cleanups were cancelled in March to ensure volunteer safety over virus concerns. This resulted in an estimated 84,000 kilometres of garbage left on shorelines.

The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup is a conservation partnership between Ocean Wise and WWF Canada and volunteers are needed now that the cleanup is running again.

With COVID-19 protocols in place, cleanups will be done solo or with small groups. New resources are available to help people plan their cleanups including checklists and reminders on how to find public health information.

Volunteers are encouraged to organize a cleanup at home, at a local park while social distancing or with their families during a staycation.
