Environment Canada issues special weather statement for Vancouver

High wind warning for coast

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Metro Vancouver due to powerful winds moving across the B.C. South Coast. 

This morning, a strong Pacific Frontal system moving across the B.C. South Coast will give potentially damaging winds, explains the statement. 

For Metro Vancouver, Southern Gulf Islands, Sunshine Coast - Gibsons to Earls Cove and communities in the mouth of Howe Sound, including Bowen Island, the south to southeast winds up to 60 km/h will veer sharply to the northwest 40 to 60 km/h with gusts up to 70 this morning.

The winds will abate near noon as the front moves inland.

The special weather statement is in effect for:

  • Metro Vancouver - central including the City of Vancouver Burnaby and New Westminster
  • Metro Vancouver - North Shore including West Vancouver and North Vancouver
  • Metro Vancouver - southeast including Surrey and Langley
  • Metro Vancouver - southwest including Richmond and Delta
