Interior Health says 46 cases of COVID-19 are now associated with cluster in Revelstoke

Revelstoke cluster at 46

The community cluster of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Revelstoke has grown substantially since the weekend.

Interior Health confirmed Tuesday morning a total of 46 cases are now associated with the cluster.

On Friday, IH reported 29 cases of the virus, which was first reported more than two weeks ago.

Of the 46 cases reported Tuesday, the health authority says 32 are currently active. Many of the new cases are associated with previously confirmed cases.

In a news release, Interior Health says its priority is to ensure everyone exposed is self-isolating, and close contacts are identified and receive follow-ups from public health.

"An exposure event related to this cluster has been identified at Ecole de Glacier Elementary on Nov. 23. Public health is following up with any close contacts," the release stated.

"All schools have safety plans in place and students who have not been contacted directly by public health can continue to go to school.

"IH continues to highlight the importance, especially at this time, of limiting your social activities and following COVID-19 protocols. Socialization must be limited to your household bubble and you should not be attending gatherings at this time. People should be physical distancing and masking when unable to stay apart during essential activities."

Interior Health is also reminding people to limit all non-essential travel, which means staying within your own community, skiing at your local ski hills, not gathering after a day of skiing, and only going to restaurants with your family bubble.

"This cluster illustrates that COVID-19 is in smaller, rural communities as well as larger urban centres."
