Interior Health declares Salmo coronavirus community cluster contained

Salmo cluster contained

A COVID-19 community cluster in the Salmo region has been contained, Interior Health announced Friday afternoon (Dec. 4).

A total of 25 cases were connected to this cluster, IH says in a news release.

"I’d like to thank local elected officials, family physicians, public health, clinic staff, businesses and residents for working hard to limit the spread of COVID-19 once this cluster was identified. Containing this cluster shows when everyone pulls together and follows public health guidance we can limit the spread of COVID-19," says Susan Brown, Interior Health president and CEO, in a statement.

All cases associated with the cluster received appropriate follow-up and have recovered, according to IH. Contacts of each confirmed case were identified through contact tracing, and also got direction from public health.

The majority of the cluster cases were linked to several social events that occurred in Salmo at the end of October and early November.

No exposures were identified in a school setting in Salmo, the statement continues.

Interior Health notes that the end of the cluster doesn't mean people in the area and other rural communities "should let down their guard." People should still keep to their household bubbles, limit non-essential travel, wash their hands, physical distance and stay home if sick.
