Two hurt in shootout near Creston, B.C.

Two injured in shootout

Two men were wounded during a shootout in Creston Monday night.

RCMP Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey said on Feb. 8 just after 10 p.m., police responded reports of gunfire near Crawford Creek and Selkirk Road.

“Police believe that a group of individuals attended a property in that area and confronted an occupant inside the home. A dispute ensued and the confrontation quickly escalated to shots allegedly being fired into the home,” said O'Donaghey.

“Investigators believe that an exchange of gunfire took place, as shots that appear to have originated from inside the house were also fired.”

The occupant of the home, an adult man, sustained what police believe to be a non-life threatening injury, consistent with a gunshot.

O'Donaghey said a group of people were arrested outside of the residence.

“One of those individuals, a man in his late 30s, was also found to be suffering from an apparent gunshot wound,” said O'Donaghey.

Both men were transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services for urgent medical care.

Police took steps to secure the scene overnight, which was then examined for physical evidence by forensic specialists with the RCMP Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS).

Investigators believe the “incident was targeted and isolated in nature, as the individuals involved were known to one another,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

Anyone with any additional information is asked to contact the Creston RCMP at 250-428-9313.
