Fundraiser for Prince George woman who saved five through organ donation surpasses $10K goal

GoFundMe for organ donor

The GoFundMe for a Prince George woman who heroically saved five other lives through organ donation after a tragic accident has surpassed its goal.

The $10,000 fundraiser has now reached more than $11,000 in honour of Lexi Augustson, who died on Jan. 28, 2021, one week after her 21st birthday, when she was in a horrible accident.

Lexi's sister, Brittney Locke, says after 45 minutes of resuscitation, doctors and emergency crews at University Hospital of Northern BC in Prince George were able to get her heart beating again, but sadly suffered major head trauma and left Lexi with no brain activity.

"The doctors have told us that she passed instantly during her accident, no pain or suffering," Brittney wrote on the fundraising page.

"Later, we received word that Lexi had filled out an organ donation form."

On Feb. 1, 2021, Lexi underwent organ donation surgery in which she was able to save five other lives.

"We had to say goodbye to the best daughter, sister, soulmate, niece, granddaughter, best friend, aunty and over all just the kindest human being we know."

Their parents, Chad and Amanda Cormack, recently moved to Prince George and bought a home that they have been fixing and renovating slowly before tragedy struck.

They also have six children currently at home, Cassandra (16), Eben (14), Kristal (11), Jaclynn (8), Wyck (4) and Robert (18 months).

With the goal being surpassed, Lexi's mom has asked that anyone looking to make a donation to consider a donation in her name to your local SPCA or Autism speaks.

"Thank You is not a big enough word to show my appreciation," Amanda wrote in a Feb. 10 update. "We have surpassed our goal. If you would like to continue to honour our Lexi, please consider a donation in her name to your local SPCA or Autism Speaks. Two things she held close to her heart."

Two of Lexi's siblings live with Autism Amanda explained in the statement.

"Animals of all shapes and size always came through our door. Lexi loved them all. Autism is also close to her, as two of her siblings have Autism. She always stood up for them. She would use her big sister voice to help."

Amanda Cormack also asked everyone to consider organ donation, and have conversations with loved ones who may not have registered yet.

"As we go through this extremely hard time, I hold close my Lexi. Please consider having those hard conversations with your love ones.

"Lexi made the choice to be an organ donor. I was so grateful I didn't have to make that choice. I only honoured her choice. I am so proud of our girl. Thank you again for all the love and support."
