3.6-magnitude earthquake recorded off Vancouver Island on Tuesday

Quake off coast of BC

A 3.6-magnitude earthquake was recorded off the west coast of Vancouver Island, Tuesday.

Natural Resources Canada said the quake struck about 3:30 p.m. at a depth of 10 kilometres and was located 535 km west of Victoria and 266 kilometres west southwest of Port Alice.

The quake was not felt, and no tsunami was expected, the federal agency said.

On Saturday, a 3.9-magnitude quake was reported eight kilometres north of Banff.

It was lightly felt in that community as well as in Canmore and Sparwood.
