Surrey gang squad impound car, seize drugs and money

The Surrey Gang Enforcement Team is keeping a close eye on bad guys.

Shortly after midnight on Feb. 20, SGET officers were conducting pro-active enforcement in the area of 121A Street and 85A Avenue, the location of a recent targeted gang shooting.

The officers observed a suspicious vehicle and initiated a traffic stop.

After stopping the vehicle, officers saw signs of illegal drug possession and arrested the driver, a 24-year-old woman.

Further investigation led police to discover multiple pre-packaged baggies of suspected cocaine, meth, crack cocaine as well as $1,320 in cash.

The woman was arrested for possession for the purpose of trafficking and released from custody while the investigation continues.

The Alfa Romeo she was driving was seized as offence-related property, pending investigation.

Police can seize offence-related property under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Property used to commit crimes, including vehicles used for drug trafficking, can be seized and may be subject to forfeiture by the courts upon conviction.

Since January, additional SGET officers were deployed across the city, increasing the size of teams and reach of officers specialized in gang disruption.

Those officers have been in direct contact with gang members and affiliates in Surrey, through increased curfew checks as well as continued targeted enforcement and vehicle interdictions.

SGET continues to liaise with other gang units to ensure information gathered during enforcement efforts is shared and passed on to various units with active investigations.
