B.C. has had 120 new COVID-19 cases, one death, in past 24 hours

120 new cases, one death

There have been 120 new cases of COVID-19 identified in B.C. in the past 24 hours, including 43 in the Interior.

The new cases bring the total positive tests in the province to 146,794, but there remains 1,451 active cases. Active cases dropped by three since Wednesday.

While 44 per cent of the new cases came from the Fraser Health region, Interior cases made up 35 per cent of the new cases.

COVID-19 hospitalizations dropped by three since Wednesday, to 131, and 44 of these people are being treated in ICU.

One more COVID-positive person has died in B.C. – a man in his 80s connected to the previous outbreak at Richmond Hospital. The latest death brings the total deaths in B.C. to 1,739. In the Interior, there have been 155 COVID-19 deaths to date.

Another 66,729 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the past 24 hours, bringing the total doses to 4,231,871. The administration of second doses has been increasing in the past week, and to date, 768,008 second doses have been administered.

As of Friday, 76.5 per cent of all adults in B.C. and 74.4 per cent of those 12 and older have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Dr. Bonnie Henry noted that the supply of Pfizer vaccines is expected to be reduced in the first two weeks of July, but that supply is expected to made up by the end of July. Meanwhile, the supply of Moderna is expected to significantly increase in the next couple of week. Dr. Henry called the delay "disappointing," but not unexpected.
