Trail RCMP being assisted by Southeast District Major Crime Unit after homicide

Deadly altercation in Trail

The Southeast District Major Crime Unit has been called to assist Trail RCMP after a homicide Wednesday evening. The suspect remains at large but police do not believe there is a risk to the general public.

Trail RCMP responded to a report of an injured man at a gas station on Victoria St. just before 10 p.m. Wednesday June 30.

Officers found a 40-year-old Trail man in critical condition, despite life-saving efforts by both police and BC Emergency Health Services the man died shortly after arriving at hospital.

Witnesses at the scene reported there had been an altercation at a nearby church between the victim and another man, who was known to him. The man fled on foot prior and remains at large.

"We understand the concern that the suspect has not been located, however we want to reassure you that this incident appears to have been an isolated incident between parties known to each other, and we do not believe there is any on-going risk to the general public, S/Sgt. Shoihet adds.

RCMP investigators, along with the Forensic Identification Team will be in speaking to witnesses, canvassing for video and examining several scenes.
