Fire at church in Prince George was arson, RCMP say

Another arson at a church

Investigators have deemed suspicious a fire that broke out early Sunday morning at a Spruceland area church.

Firefighters were called at 2:25 a.m. to the Trinity United Church in the 3500 block of Fifth Avenue where they doused a small fire on the building's exterior.

“A fire investigator from the Prince George RCMP attended the location and determined that the fire was the result of arson,” Prince George RCMP Cst. Jennifer Cooper said in a press release issued Tuesday afternoon.

RCMP did not speculate on motivation.

On its Facebook page, the church is described as being "progressively grounded" and "rooted in the teaching of Jesus and a mission to make a difference in the world.

"Our core values: Living Faith, Inclusive Fellowship, and Joyful Service shape who we are and how we live out our ministry."

Church officials could not be reached for comment on Tuesday afternoon.

RCMP are asking anyone with information about this event or who may have dash cam footage or surveillance from that neighbourhood between the hours of 1:45 a.m. and 2:25 a.m. to contact police.

The detachment can be reached by calling 250-561-3300.
