A man who crossed the Canada/U.S. border by stowing away in a train car last month likely regretted his trip.
RCMP say they were called by CP Rail on July 23, 2021 after a fisherman heard a man yelling for help as a train passed by.
Officials were told the train would be stopping in Fernie.
“Officers spoke with the train’s conductor who believed that they may have a stowaway on board,” RCMP said in a news release. “It was soon learned that the male was stuck inside a grain car, banging to get out.”
The man had entered the grain car by an unlocked hatch and had been trapped inside for two days without food or water.
The stowaway was treated by paramedics and sustained no injuries.
He was then arrested for trespassing, mischief and illegal entry to Canada prior to being shipped to Surrey, B.C. where he was transferred into U.S. custody at the border.
