Police investigating child's death in Creston, B.C.

Child's death investigated

RCMP major crimes is investigating the death of a child in the Kootenays.

Police were called just after 6 p.m. on Aug. 30 to a campground east of Creston, B.C. for a report of an unresponsive child.

Officers arrived to find the child in “serious medical distress” and the child was transported to Calgary Children's Hospital by way of BC Air Ambulance. The child succumbed to their injuries on September 2.

Police did not provide details on the type of injuries the child sustained, or their age. The Southeast District Major Crime unit and BC Coroners Service is investigating.

“This is a tragic situation affecting many people in the community, including family, first responders and medical personne”l says Sergeant Chris Manseau, RCMP Division Media Relations Officer "This investigation is still in the preliminary stages with many tasks being completed. This will be a thorough and involved process involving many agencies including BC Coroners service."
