605 new cases, four deaths

There were 605 new COVID-19 cases identified in British Columbia in the past 24 hours, including 119 in the Interior.

The new cases bring B.C.’s total since the pandemic began to 195,186 cases, and 5,172 remain active. Active cases dropped by 11 since Tuesday.

Hospitalizations jumped by 17 in the past 24 hours, to 374, and 153 people are now being treated in intensive care.

There are currently 850 active cases within Interior Health.

There were four new deaths reported throughout B.C. in the past 24 hours – three in Northern Health and one in Island Health. To date, 2,033 British Columbians have died after contracting COVID-19.

One new outbreak at Tofino General Hospital was declared Wednesday, and there remains 19 active outbreaks across B.C. in care homes, assisted living facilities and hospitals.

The new/active cases include:

245 new cases in Fraser Health – Total active cases: 2,214
82 new cases in Vancouver Coastal Health — Total active cases: 721
119 new cases in Interior Health — Total active cases: 850
67 new cases in Northern Health — Total active cases: 689
92 new cases in Island Health — Total active cases: 640

In the past 24 hours, 13,917 doses of a COVID vaccine were administered in the province. As of Wednesday, 88.9% of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 82.7% received their second dose.

From Oct. 5-11, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 68.0% of cases and from Sept. 28-Oct. 11, they accounted for 73.4% of hospitalizations.
