Trail RCMP rescue elderly woman trapped in bathroom, twice

RCMP in the Kootenays recently came to the rescue of an elderly woman twice in three days.

Police in Trail, B.C. were called on Nov. 26 at 10:30 a.m. to a home in the 2000 block of Daniel Street after a neighbour heard someone inside shouting for help.

When officers arrived, they found an 89-year-old Trail woman trapped in her bathroom after the door handle had fallen off. The elderly woman was in good spirits and was rescued without incident.

Three days later on Nov. 29, RCMP responded to a call for help at the same home. This time the 89-year-old woman had triggered her medical alarm when she became stuck in the bathroom again due to the faulty lock.

“Again, the elderly woman was in good spirits and happy to be rescued again by a handsome police officer,” said Sgt. Mike Wicentowich. “Trail RCMP will assist the elderly woman in getting her bathroom lock repaired in the near future.”

Other recent police files showing the lighter side of the law in Trail, B.C.

RCMP were called to a downtown hotel on Nov. 28 at 8:16 p.m. for a complaint about noisy children running up and down the hallways.

“RCMP officers spoke to a hotel employee who was having a difficult time resolving the situation and appeared to be at her wit’s end with trying to control a mob of excited kids,” Wicentowich said.

Officers located the children and spoke to their parents, who quickly resolved the situation.

Trail RCMP were called to the 1100 block of Second Avenue on the afternoon of November 20 for a report of a neighbour dumping snow onto another neighbour's yard.

The officer spoke to the offending neighbour who agreed to stop dumping his snow into his neighbour’s yard.

“Trail and Greater District RCMP remind the public to be respectful of their neighbours while clearing snow,” Wicentowich said.
