Angry over slow pace of McDonald's drive-thru, man attacks customer ahead of him with shovel

Drive-thru shovel attack

A disagreement in a McDonald’s lineup led to one man beating another man with a shovel, Nanaimo RCMP say.

The victim did not require hospitalization.

He was in a vehicle in the drive-thru at the McDonald’s near Terminal Park Shopping Centre about 2 p.m. Monday and got annoyed that the person in front of him was taking too long.

“He honks the horn a couple of times,” said Const. Gary O’Brien. “The suspect comes out with a shovel and starts smashing at his car.

“The victim runs away and he’s chased, and he’s hit in the head about three times with the shovel.”

The suspect was still there when police arrived. He was arrested and is facing charges of assault with a weapon. He has been released on conditions.
