BC man fined, banned from hunting for killing buck out of season

Fined for killing buck

Failing to count to four cost a New Westminster hunter $1,500.

The unidentified man has been fined and given an 18-month hunting ban for killing a two-point mule deer buck in a four-point or better season near Bridesville.

The incident took place in October 2020.

Conservation Officers received a complaint of someone shooting from a road and converged on the area.

Further investigation found the dead deer and an empty rifle cartridge.

Due to the warm conditions and time delay, the deer was unsalvageable.

The individual recently pleaded guilty to killing wildlife not within an open season and failing to retrieve edible portions, both offences under the B.C. Wildlife Act.

The individual was also ordered to retake the CORE hunter training program.

His rifle was forfeited.

The penalty will go towards the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation.
