Trail B.C. residents asked to be on lookout for grass fire arsonist

Arsonist lighting grass fires

Mounties in the Kootenays are investigating a string of recent grass fires believed to be set by an arsonist.

Emergency crews were called on April 3 at 3:25 p.m. to an intentionally set grass fire near the 5000 block of Highway 3B in Trail, BC.

Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue extinguished the fire while police searched the area.

Later that evening at 7:31 p.m., police and fire crews responded to an intentionally set grass fire near Devito river and Bear Creek Road, in Trail.

Fire crews doused the fire, and again, police searched for suspects.

Trail RCMP says they located four other areas in which there appeared to be recent intentionally set fires.

Residents in Trail are being asked to remain on the lookout for suspicious people or occurrences.

Anyone with information should contact the Trail Detachment at 250-364-2566 to speak to the investigator.
