Camouflaged man, eager to join Ukraine war, tries to enter military compound in B.C.

Police in the Kootenays say a man attempted to enter a military compound last week in an attempt to join the war effort in Ukraine.

RCMP were called on April 6 at 2:50 p.m. about a 36-year-old Nelson, B.C. man who was dressed in camouflage who tried to enter the fenced compound at the 44th Field Engineering Squadron Armoury, in Trail, BC.

“The man had told someone at the armoury that he was attempting to get to the Ukraine, as it is believed that he wanted to join the Ukraine war effort,” said Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.

Officers located the man and apprehended him without incident under the Mental Health Act.

Police say he will remain in medical care until “further notice.”
