Woman loses life after being trapped in vehicle and struck by a train

Fatal train collision

A woman has died in a fatal collision between a train and a flatbed truck in Maple Ridge B.C.

Ridge Meadows RCMP says the collision occurred Thursday at about 5:45 p.m.

Reports indicate the truck was struck by an oncoming train, resulting in the truck colliding with a black SUV in the 27200 block of Lougheed Highway.

"A flatbed truck was attempting to cross the train tracks when the back of the flatbed was struck by an Eastbound train. The impact of the train colliding with the truck resulted the truck striking the SUV that was attempting to cross the tracks in the opposite direction, trapping the driver inside the SUV," says RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Julie Klaussner.

Rescue crews worked to rescue the woman trapped in the SUV that rolled as a result of the impact, sadly, the woman died on the scene. BC Coroners Services is investigating the circumstances around the fatality.
