Never consent to being punched in the head to win an argument: RCMP

Man invites punch to head

Do not invite people to punch you in the head, no matter how good of an idea it may seem at the time, says the RCMP.

Police say they were called on June 10 at 2:37 p.m. for a complaint originating in downtown Fruitvale, B.C.

A 56-year-old Castlegar man reported that his friend punched him in the head after he was invited to do so. The Castlegar man and his friend had been in a verbal argument before the punch.

During the argument, his friend told the Castlegar man that he should punch the Castlegar man in the head. The Castlegar man told his friend to go ahead, and his friend obliged.

The Castlegar man was not injured in the punch.

“Trail RCMP recommends never to consent to being punched in the head during an argument, even if one thinks it may be helpful to one’s case in some way,” said Sgt. Mike Wicentowich in a news release.

The responding officer to the incident “provided guidance” to the 56-year-old Castlegar man “to help avoid such incidents in the future,” said RCMP.
