One man dead, woman wounded after shooting in Campbell River

One dead, one wounded

One woman is in hospital and a man is dead after a shooting Tuesday in Campbell River, RCMP said.

Campbell River RCMP responded to a report of gunshots in the area of Upland Drive and Robron Road on Tuesday afternoon.

The man’s death appears to have been caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

“There is no ongoing threat to public safety,” said Const. Maury Tyre, media liaison for Campbell River RCMP. Police officers remained on the scene of a townhouse complex Tuesday night.

“We will provide the public with further information when it is prudent to do so,” he said.

The RCMP also dispatched victim services Tuesday to help families.

Police have asked people to avoid discussing or posting photos about the incident on social media in order “to allow families to have time to process and privately grieve.”
