Burnaby RCMP arrest five people after weapons complaint and an hours-long standoff

Lengthy standoff

Multiple police units were called to assist the Burnaby RCMP Thursday following a weapons complaint.

Cpl. Mike Kalanj said five people were arrested a residence in the 1600-block of Ingleton Avenue following a hours-long standoff.

Police were called just after 11:30 a.m. Thursday and the situation was not resolved until 5 p.m.

“Police located the complainant, who was not injured, at scene. Information at the time indicated the suspect had fled to a residence in the 3900-block of Gravely Street,” said Kalanj.

With the assistance of Vancouver Emergency Response Team, three men were taken into custody outside of the residence while two suspects remained inside the residence.

To ensure public safety, Integrated Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team (IERT), Integrated Lower Mainland Police Dog Service (IPDS) and Burnaby RCMP officers secured the scene and restricted traffic in the area.

Efforts were made to call the individuals out of the residence and one female was taken into custody upon exiting. Later, just before 5 p.m, the fifth suspect was taken into custody after police entered the residence.

“This incident concluded with no injuries to the public or police and is currently still under investigation,” said Cpl. Laura Hirst. “We would like to thank the public for their patience as officers secured the area for some time. Police will remain on scene as the investigation is ongoing.”
