The Okanagan Sun season came to a close in a semi-final loss

Sun season sets in Langley

A disappointing season for the Okanagan Sun came to a close Saturday evening in Langley.

The unbeaten Rams, as expected, took down the Sun 45-15 in the first of two BCFC semi-finals.

The Sun also lost the services of first-year quarterback Alex Douglas who was taken off the field on a stretcher after taking a hit on an interception late in the third quarter.

Rookie Dominic Britton finished the final quarter.

The Sun got the first break of the game, when Miguel Woods scooped up a loose ball after the Rams fumbled the opening kickoff. From the 35, it took Douglas just three plays to find Kyle Zakala for a 25-year strike and a 7-0 lead before many fans had been able to find their seats.

From there, most of the breaks went the Rams way.

Behind all-everything running back Andrew Porcnic, the Rams gave the Sun defence a steady diet of ground and pound.

The Rams ran 27 plays on the next two possessions, throwing the ball just once. That was an incompletion on a second and 25 that resulted in a roughing-the-passer penalty and a first down.

Langley scored on both of those, a one-yard Colby Peters run and Porcnic's 18-yard scamper on a second and goal from the 18.

Two possessions later, Peters connected on a 30-yard touchdown strike to Khalik Johnson to put the Sun down two scores.

The Sun meantime did very little offensively after their scoring drive, picking up less than 70 yards in total offence.

Things didn't go much better after halftime.

The Sun got good field position at their 40 off the second half kickoff, but Douglas' first pass of the half was intercepted, the first of four picks he threw in the quarter.

That led to a field goal. On the ensuing possession, Douglas was again picked on second and long, setting up Porcnic's second touchdown of the game from 14 yards out.

Douglas was able to engineer one touchdown drive in the third, an eight-play, 80-yard drive culminating in a six-yard toss to rookie Kaden Wagner.

An interception return for a touchdown from Ryan Barthelson when Douglas was hurt, and Johnson's second strike from Peters closed out the scoring.

It was a difficult season for the Sun, who had their struggles with a lot of fresh faces on the offence, and long-term injuries to key players.
