The Okanagan Sun suffered their first loss of the season in a game cut short due to a power failure

The Langley Rams are the only unbeaten team remaining in the BC Football Conference, but the way they got there will leave a sour taste in the mouths of football fans for quite some time.

The Rams handed the Okanagan Sun their first loss of the season Sunday night, a 7-0 defeat in a game called midway through the third quarter due to darkness.

The question the league will have to ask is why was the game played in the first place.

Just prior to the 6 p.m. kickoff, the power at McLeod Stadium went out, a byproduct of a car accident earlier in the afternoon. BC Hydro's website indicated power to the area, including the stadium and its lights wouldn't be restored until 9:30.

But, the game went on as scheduled and, in almost total darkness, ended with the Sun turning the ball over following a failed third-and-goal at the Rams 4.

In what was a defensive struggle throughout, it was the Rams D which came through with big play after big play.

They forced seven turnovers during the abbreviated game, including five interceptions of Sun quarterback Dominic Britton.

One of those interceptions in the second quarter led to the opening points of the game, a wide field goal attempt from 21 yards.

The Sun had a chance to take the lead in the dying moments of the first half, but ran out of time with the ball at the Rams 11.

The lone touchdown came just before the game was called when Joel Klassen rambled in from 33 yards out.

The two-point conversion was no good.

The Sun, now 2-1 on the season, travel to Nanaimo next Saturday to face the 1-1 VI Raiders.
