Pastor Don's hamper drive, a tradition at West Kelowna Warriors games in December, is going virtual

Hamper drive goes virtual

As with so many events and traditions in the face of a global pandemic, West Kelowna Warriors team chaplain Don Richmond is adapting.

Each year, Richmond and the team hold a hamper drive during a home game in December to feed families struggling to make ends meet at Christmas.

With the uncertainty of when the Warriors season will resume, and a rapidly growing need, Tim Hortons has jumped in to ensure the hamper drive will be held this year.

Fans can donate to the hamper drive by making a donation at any of the three Tim Hortons locations on the Westside.

“It is an honour as the Warriors chaplain to co-ordinate our 10th annual West Kelowna Warriors Christmas Hamper drive,” said Richmond.

“During the month of December, we will collect funds that will be used to purchase groceries for what we hope is 120 hampers, which will be delivered to needy families in West Kelowna.”

The yearly target is usually 50 hampers, but with more and more families in need due to the pandemic, Richmond hopes to more than double that number.

The Warriors will also donate $5 from the purchase of a Warriors face mask to the hamper drive. Masks are available at the Warriors office, or at the team's online store.
