The Penticton Vees, the South Okanagan Events Centre and the City of Penticton have announced full COVID-19 vaccination will be required to attend all games during the 2021/22 season for those 12 and older.
The provincial government announced a vaccine passport program rollout that will require proof of one dose of vaccine at many organized events and indoor gathering locations starting Sept. 13, and proof of two doses by Oct. 24.
The Vees decided to make two doses mandatory for entrance to the SOEC starting from their first exhibition game on Sept. 24. It applies to all guests, team players and team staff.
"We are in complete support of the Provincial Health Mandate regarding vaccine passports,” said president, general manager and head coach Fred Harbinson.
“I stated months ago that we needed everyone on the same team and getting vaccinated would give us the best opportunity to have a full SOEC in the fall.”
Harbinson said the "vast majority" of Vees fans he has spoken to in recent month support the plan and found it reassuring.
"Making Vees game night safe and enjoyable experience once again," Harbinson said.
Further information in regards to the vaccine passport rollout and other COVID-19 safety measures at Vees home games will be released soon.
In-person fans were not allowed at Vees game in the previous season.
