West Kelowna Warriors won their fifth in a row, edging Wenatchee 5-4 in overtime

Warriors streak now at 5

Felix Trudeau scored his second of the game 38 seconds into sudden death, three-on-three overtime Thursday, leading the West Kelowna Warriors to a 5-4 win in Wenatchee.

Early in the extra period, Tyson Jugnauth gathered a loose in his own end, and sent Trudeau in all alone.

Trudeau deked to the backhand and beat Wenatchee netminder Tyler Shea five-hole.

Thursday's game was the home opener for the Wild, who played their first eight on the road prior to the US government reopening the border to ground travel on Monday.

The Wild came out fired up, treating their fans to some early fireworks.

Anthony Cafarelli and Brodrick Williams beat Johnny Derrick before the game was five minutes old to give the wild a 2-0 lead.

But, four unanswered goals in the second turned the two goal deficit into a two goal advantage.

Tyler Cristall deflected John Evans point shot just as a power play expired to get the Warriors on the board 3:21 into the second.

Three minutes later, Trudeau tied it with his first of the night. Trudeau grabbed Tyson Jugnauth's point shot, spun, and beat Shea from in tight.

Evans put the Warriors up one midway through the second. While killing a penalty, he stole the puck inside his own blueline and broke out two-on-one.

Using Marcus Joughin as a decoy, Evans threw the puck on net. Shea made the initial stop, but Evans banged home the rebound.

Brennan Nelson doubled the lead late in the second, muscling past two Wild defenders before beat Shea high blocker side.

The Wild tied it with a pair of goal in the third, forcing overtime.

The Warriors outshot Wenatchee 36-34 on the night.

The same two teams hook up again Friday in Wenatchee.

Thursday's win improved the Warriors record to 9-2, the best start in franchise history.
