Penticton Vees continue their streak with a win over the Vernon Vipers

Vees extend win streak

The Penticton Vees are now at 17 straight wins, after their 6-2 game over the Vernon Vipers, Friday at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

The Vees were in front of their largest crowd of the season, as 3,382 fans turned out for the Remembrance Day contest.

Beanie Richter took the Vees to the scoreboard first at five and a half minutes into the game, using Mason Poolman’s shot off the goalie’s pad as a rebound and sliding it into the net at the top of the crease.

Vernon’s Seiya Tanaka-Campbell tied it 1-1 later on in the first period, scoring from the bottom of the face-off circle.

Just 12 seconds into the second period the Vees would retake the lead, with Ben Brunett scoring at the tail end of a power play. Brunette’s shot from the blue line found its way through traffic and past Vernon’s Roan Clarke.

Jackson Nieuwendyk added another goal late in the middle frame after the Vees had a power play expire, firing a shot over the goalie’s shoulder and putting Penticton up 3-1.

Callum Arnott batted a bouncing puck past Clarke just 52 seconds into the final frame to make it 4-1.

Then Ryan Hopkins scored his sixth goal just over a minute later, putting Penticton up 5-1 after his shot from up top eluded the Vernon goaltender on the stick side.

'Ethan Mann would finish off the Vees’ scoring at 9:59, as he followed up Arnott’s drive to the net and shoved the loose puck across the line.

Lee Parks scored a late consolation power-play goal for the Vipers to cap off the scoring at the end of the third.

The Vees' next game is Saturday night against the Trail Smoke Eaters at 7 p.m. in Trail.
