On the heels of their first shutout loss in nearly two years, the Penticton Vees came back in the win column with their 7-2 victory over the Trail Smoke Eaters, Friday at Cominco Arena.
Friday marked the 12 time this season Penticton has scored seven or more goals in a game.
Penticton dealt with three first-period injuries, playing the final 40 minutes with just 10 forwards and five defensemen. Defenceman Ben Brunette and forwards Cal Arnott and Billy Norcross all sustained injuries in the first period and did not return.
Bradly Nadeau started off the scoring two minutes into the first period on the game’s first power play. Bradly took a pass from his older brother Josh Nadeau and slapped the puck into the corner.
The Vees’ lead was doubled late in the first when Beanie Ritcher took Frank Djurasevic’s point shot, deflecting the puck underneath the goalie’s arm.
Trail responded with a goal of their own before the period would end.
Penticton came back strong even with a short bench at the start of the second, scoring twice in the first four and a half minutes. Jackson Nieuwendyk scored on the power play to make it 3-1 and Aydar Suniev followed with another when he poked the puck across the goal line from inside the Trail crease.
Trail cut the Vees’ lead in half early in the third period with a goal from Ethan Warrener, but Penticton responded with three unanswered to close out the scoring.
Josh Nadeau put another in the net for the team after he took his brother’s pass past the goal line. Suniev picked up his second of the game on another Vees’ power play goal. Tinling finished the scoring nearing the end of the third to make the final score 7-2.
The Vees next game is on Saturday night facing off against Cowichan Valley Capitals. Puck drop is a 6 p.m.
