Dear Cop - Violations

You have a most informative column. Am I guilty of an offence if I ride my bicycle through a stop sign without coming to a complete halt? How about a skateboard? How about on my roller blades? How about as a pedestrian?
Am I to expect demerits on my drivers license? What if it is suspended? (hence the bicycle, skateboard and roller blades)

Violations
If you ride your bicycle through a stop sign without stopping, you would be guilty of Fail To Obey Stop Sign and could be fined $167. If you have a valid BC driver license then any points associated to the offence will be added to your driving record.

Roller bladers or in-line roller blades and skateboards laws are found in the City of Kelowna By-Laws. The BC Motor Vehicle Act does not have any provisions for in-line roller blades or for skateboarders.

The Kelowna By-Laws indicate that all roller bladers must use the bicycle lane when a bicycle lane is present or the fine is $35 and no points. Roller bladers cannot use sidewalks or a fine of $35 and no points. Roller bladers must use intersections to cross over roadways or the fine is $35 and no points.

Skateboards are to be used in designated skateboard park areas. Skateboarders cannot be on the roadways or sidewalks at all or the fine is $35 and no points..
