Mid-air Collision At Air Show

  • Transport investigators are travelling to Moose Jaw on Monday after a mid-air collision at an air show left two American stunt pilots dead. Bobby Younkin and Jimmy Franklin were killed when their biplanes collided late Sunday afternoon at the Saskatchewan Centennial 2005 Air Show. Full story

  • Frank Moores, who became the first Conservative premier of Newfoundland in 1972 after defeating Joey Smallwood's Liberals and went on to wield great influence on Parliament Hill, has died. Moores, 72, died Sunday of cancer in a hospital in Perth, Ont., about 60 kilometres southwest of Ottawa. He had been fighting the disease for more than a year. Full story

  • Canada's minister for public safety and emergency preparedness is assuring Canadians that the nation is under no specific threat of a terrorist attack after the series of fatal bombings that shook London last week. "I don't think that Canadians should be unduly alarmed," Anne McLellan said Monday on CTV's Canada AM. Full story

  • The fog may finally be clearing in Halifax, where poor visibility and construction have plagued the airport for days. Karen Sinclair, a spokeswoman for the Halifax International Airport, said three planes had landed there and nine had taken off as of 9:30 a.m. AT. However, there are still expected to be delays today as officials attempt to get the airport moving again. There is a passenger backlog left over from dozens of cancellations on Sunday. Full story

  • The political landscape has again changed, following the death of Independent MP Chuck Cadman, and most suggest the Liberals will wait to fill the void. The Liberals have two options. The government could call a by-election in Surrey North -- considered a Conservative stronghold -- in the hopes of boosting their minority government by one seat. Prime Minister Paul Martin could also wait until an election, which he has promised to hold 30 days after a report by Justice John Gomery. Gomery is investigating the sponsorship scandal.
