  • The federal government plans to create 11 new "centres of expertise" to track down Canadians who hide their money in illegal tax havens abroad. The offices will bring together auditors who specialize in international tax, special audits and tax avoidance, according to a release from the Canada Revenue Agency. CBC News

  • Eight people were injured Wednesday in a chain-reaction crash of a Greyhound bus and two transport trucks east of Grande Prairie, Alta. All of the injured were taken to two local hospitals, Deb Guerette, a spokesman for the Peace Country Health network told CBC.ca. CBC News

  • After seven days of deliberations, a jury in Toronto has found a 29-year-old man guilty of first-degree murder in the stabbing death of his former girlfriend, as well as manslaughter in the death of her sister. Friends of Marsha and Tamara Ottey broke into applause as the jury foreperson read out the verdicts. CBC News

  • The federal government is denying a published report that says it plans to lay off thousands of workers. A spokeswoman for Treasury Board President Reg Alcock, Lise Jolicoeur, says a study is being conducted on possible changes in the way jobs are assigned, but it is not government policy. CTV News
