Postal Workers Launch Campaign To Stop Closure

  • Postal workers have launched a massive campaign to stop the closure of a mail-sorting plant in Quebec City. Three hundred people work in the facility. Over the next two years, the plant will be shut down and mail will be trucked to Montreal for sorting. CBC News

  • People in the city of Kingston are keeping watch on the movement of a huge manure spill moving toward Ontario from New York State. The manure came from a dairy farm about 50 kilometres from the south shore of Lake Ontario. CBC News

  • A group of foxy thieves have been nabbing sandals and rifling through bags on a beach in Prince Edward Island. These thieves aren't your usual ones, though. They're believed to be a family of foxes living near Brackley Beach, in Prince Edward Island National Park. CBC News

  • Two Canadian peacekeepers were reportedly injured in Egypt, near the border with the Gaza Strip, after a blast occurred near a vehicle they were travelling in. The two Canadian soldiers -- serving in the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) -- were both women sergeants, according to senior Egyptian security officials. CTV News

  • CN Rail has admitted that information about a toxic wood preservative spilled in an Aug. 3 derailment was available that day. Area residents or crews working on the derailment didn't find out until five days after the incident. CTV News

  • With oil prices almost 50 per cent higher now than a year ago, drivers aren't the only consumers paying the price. WestJet is the latest transportation company to pass the price hike on to travellers. As of Monday, WestJet Airlines is tacking a fuel surcharge on its airfares. CTV News

  • Canadians remain generally happy with their health-care system, but they consistently over-estimate how well it compares with the rest of the world, says the annual report card from the Canadian Medical Association. CTV News
