Canada Suspends Softwood Lumber Talks

Canada has suspended softwood lumber talks with the United States to protest America's refusal to heed a NAFTA ruling that sided with the Canadian position. A scheduled meeting that was to start the next round of talks in the dispute has been canceled, with no hint of when talks might resume. CBC News
The sister of fugitive Todd Cameron Smith, convicted of gunning down a schoolmate in Taber, Alta., in 1999, is begging him to surrender to police. Jennifer Smith, 44, made an emotional appeal in Toronto today to her brother, telling him to make a collect call, or go to a police station to end the manhunt. CTV News
Paul Coffin, the first person convicted of fraud in the sponsorship scandal, apologized "to all Canadians" during his sentencing hearing Tuesday. A Canadian man who returned to his homeland of Iraq a year ago to start a new business has been killed by his kidnappers. Zaid Meerwali, who had dual Canadian-Iraqi citizenship, was taken hostage two weeks ago and murdered on Sunday. CTV News
