Amanda vaccine shamed

Amanda Kloots hasn't let cruel comments from trolls stop her feeling positive about receiving her first COVID-19 vaccine – and she is determined to use her situation to "raise awareness."

The fitness instructor, whose husband Nick Cordero died after contracting the coronavirus last year, sparked backlash when she posted on Instagram explaining that she'd been given the shot after queuing for hours in a standby line, in the hope that there would be some vaccines left over at the end of the day.

The injections are unable to be used the next day as they expire, so if they aren't used on standbys, they are thrown in the trash.

Reflecting on the controversy caused by her post on chat show The Talk on Monday, Amanda insisted: "I'm not even going to focus on that shame, because I don't spend time in my life focusing on negativity. But this post got a lot of shame, the shame got press, that press turned into conversation, that conversation turned into awareness, and then that awareness turned into positivity. That is how I roll. And that is how I live my life."

She added: "It just boggled my mind that anyone would rather see a vaccine go to waste than go into a willing arm."
