Leno to play Ed Sullivan

Former U.S. late night TV host Jay Leno has signed on to portray Ed Sullivan in a new biopic about Beatles manager Brian Epstein.

The former The Tonight Show presenter last appeared in a movie as a character other than himself back in the 1990s, but he's stepping back in front of cameras to play another U.S. TV icon in Midas Man.

Production on the film, starring The Queen's Gambit's Jacob Fortune-Lloyd as Epstein, has recommenced following a brief hiatus and director switch.

Filmmaker Jonas Akerlund stepped down and he was replaced by Sara Sugarman last week.

Sullivan is a big part of the Beatles' history - the group made several appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show, including three in February, 1964.

Their first time on the show on 9 February became part of television history when 73 million viewers tuned in to watch the Love Me Do hitmakers. The show launched American Beatlemania.

Emily Watson, Eddie Marsan, Lukas Gage, Rosie Day, and Bill Milner are also slated to star in the film.
