Actor Steve Burton has confirmed he was fired from top soap General Hospital for refusing to get a COVID vaccination.
Burton has played Jason Morgan on the show since 1991 but his character was killed off on Monday's episode, and in a new video posted online he reveals the move came after he informed producers he would not be getting the shot.
"I know there's been a lot of rumors and speculations about me and General Hospital and I wanted you to hear it from me personally," he told fans. "Unfortunately, General Hospital has let me go because of the vaccine mandate.
"Maybe one day, if these mandates are lifted, I can return. I did apply for my medical and religious exemptions and both of those were denied, which hurts, but this is also about personal freedom to me. I don't think anyone should lose their livelihood over this. But with that being said, you know me, I'll always be grateful for my time at General Hospital. I love it there, I grew up there, I grew up with some of you. I'll always be grateful."
The news comes a week after 9-1-1 star Rockmond Dunbar revealed his character had been written out of the show, also for refusing the vaccine.
