Rotary donates to KidSport

A $5,000 donation from the West Kelowna Daybreak Rotary has arrived just in time for the West Kelowna KidSport Chapter.

Autumn is a busy season for applications to the non-profit organization that provides subsidies to families who need assistance enrolling their children in sports. West Kelowna KidSport helps residents living in the City of West Kelowna, District of Peachland, Westbank First Nation and the surrounding rural areas on the Westside.

At the end of the 2018/2019 season, KidSport’s coffers were down to just $600. With an average funding application of $150 - $200, the remaining money would not have gone far. When West Kelowna Daybreak Rotary heard of the predicament, they offered a $5,000 donation for each of the next three years with the hope that others would also support West Kelowna KidSport.

The Westside’s community chapter is very grateful to West Kelowna Daybreak Rotary Club and all who contribute to ensure every child in our community has a chance to play organized sports.

Other annual donors include the City of West Kelowna Employee Fundraising Committee, which gives to various local charities each year. The committee donated $1,300 for 2019.

Mayor and Council also help children access sports via their non-cash grants in aid program each year, by waiving or subsidizing field, ice and community centre rental fees to keep recreation more affordable for Westside families. The non-cash grants in aid in the 2019 Budget totaled $310,314.
