The Emergency Department in Ashcroft will close again this weekend

For the second straight weekend, the emergency department of the Ashcroft Hospital and Health Centre will be closed overnight.

The ED will shut down on Sunday night at 8 p.m. Usually, it would run until 8 a.m. the following morning. Last weekend, the ED closed Saturday night and reopened Sunday morning.

Interior Health says the closures aren't due to larger staffing issues, but nurse availability. The fact that it has occurred two weekends in a row is just a coincidence, according to the health authority.

"Last weekend's closure was really last minute due to a family emergency," says Interior Health communications consultant Haley Allen. "This weekend's closure is just an issue with summer vacation and not being able to find coverage on a long weekend. The rest of the summer, as long as there are no last minute cancellations, are in the books already."

If Ashcroft residents require care on Sunday night, they can visit the emergency departments at nearby facilities like the Royal Inland Hospital, Lillooet Hospital or Nicola Valley Hospital.

In the event of an emergency, dial 9-1-1.
