Kamloops Blazers camp dates set for next week

If you miss Kamloops Blazers hockey, this is the last weekend you'll have to suffer without any action on the ice until next spring.

The team has announced dates for this summer's training camp, with on-ice sessions getting underway on Friday, Aug. 24. and running until Aug. 27, at the Sandman Centre.

Training camp will have a new wrinkle this year, as the team announced that all returning, listed and free agent players will be split into four teams to compete for the first-ever Blazers Cup. Squads will scrimmage each night from 4 to 7:45 p.m. on Aug 24 to 26.

The final day of camp (Aug. 27) will have the third- and fourth-place teams battle at 8:30 a.m. before the first- and second-place teams vie for the inaugural cup at 10:30 a.m. All ice sessions are open to the public and free to attend.

Teams for the first-ever Blazers Cup will be announced on social media next week, starting on Monday (Aug. 20).

Camp officially begins on Aug. 23 with registration and fitness testing. Practices will also run from 8 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. each morning from Aug 24 to 26.

The Blazers open their preseason on Aug. 31 against the Prince George Cougars.
