WolfPack soccer gets back on even footing

The TRU WolfPack men's soccer team got back to .500 last night with a dominant 4-0 win over their Kelowna rivals, the UBC Okanagan Heat. 

Much like their season-opener, the WolfPack had the superior chances in the first half but once again entered halftime locked in a scoreless draw. Finally, in the 57th minute, the team broke through, with Thomas Lantmeeters scoring off a Mitch Popadynetz corner kick for the first goal of the year.

After that, the floodgates opened. Dylan Hooper, Jan Pirrates Glasmacher and local Justin Donaldson all found the back of the net in the rout.

“We were really clicking especially in that half," said head coach John Antulov, according to TRU's sports information department. "The guys were really moving the ball around. We knew if we could get some opportunities especially on the flanks we could cause some problems."

Alex Ram had three saves for the WolfPack, getting his first shutout of the season and the second of his USPORTS career. The WolfPack are now 1-1 on the season after losing a game and having another postponed last weekend.

The Heat will have a chance at redemption very shortly, as the teams will travel to Kewlona Sunday (Aug. 2) for the second leg of a home-and-home series.

“They are going to come out ‘guns a blazing,'” said Antulov in the release. “We can’t be complacent just because of this result. We need to go into Kelowna and play the same way we did tonight.”
