Kamloops Blazers battered on Military Appreciation Night

The Everett Silvertips made quick work of the Kamloops Blazers last night (Nov. 9), chasing starting goalie Dylan Ferguson halfway through the game and cruising to a 6-1 lead.

On Military Appreciation Night at the Sandman Centre, the U.S. Division-leading Tips were a dominant five of eight on the power play. Instead of making an obvious military joke about Kamloops retreating, perhaps this game was best summed up in the comment section of the team's Facebook page?

Akash Bains had two goals for Everett while Sean Richards, Jake Christiansen, Jackson Berezowski and Riley Sutter each had one. Defenceman Gianni Fairbrother had four assists.

With the game out of reach in the third, Ryley Appelt got one back for Kamloops, with Nolan Kneen and Luc Smith assisting. Ferguson had 16 saves on 22 shots before giving way to Rayce Ramsay, who stopped all 14 shots he faced. Zane Franklin also threw down the gloves with Sahvan Khaira in the second to try and fire the team up.

After the game, head coach Serge Lajoie didn't blame the Blazers effort but says his team's play lacked coordination.

The streaky Blazers have now lost three straight games. Before this stretch, they had won four in a row.

We'll see if they can start a new winning streak when these teams meet again on Sunday (Nov. 11) at 5 p.m. at the Sandman Centre.
