Ashcroft's emergency department will close for 12 hours later this week

Ashcroft's emergency department will be closed for 12 hours this Sunday (Feb. 10).

Interior Health says the closure, which starts at 8 p.m., is due to "limited staffing availability."

"If regular staff are unavailable, we do try and fill shifts with casual staff,"  spokesperson Karl Hardt writes in an email to KamloopsMatters. "Unfortunately, that is not always possible and we do regret any interruption to regular service."

The last time the ER at the Ashcroft Hospital and Community Health Centre shut its doors for an overnight closure was Jan. 28.

Anyone requiring care is asked to do the following:

  • In the event of an emergency, call 911
  • Visit the emergency department at Royal Inland Hospital (311 Columbia St.) in Kamloops; Lillooet Hospital (951 Murray St.); or Nicola Valley Hospital in Merritt, at 3451 Voght St.
  • Call HealthLink BC at 811 if unsure about the need to seek emergency care

The emergency department in Ashcroft will return to regular hours at 6 p.m. on Feb. 15. Emergency department services normally operate on weekends only, from Friday at 6 p.m. to Monday at 8 a.m.
