Kamloops libraries now have a birding starter pack

The Thompson-Nicola Regional Library is encouraging people to get their nose out of a book and their eyes onto some binoculars with a new starter pack.

The regional library has announced it's now carrying "Budding Birder Backpacks." The backpacks contain all the gear needed to start birding in the area (except hiking boots and clothing; those you have to have already).

The backpacks have binoculars, a bird book, a waterproof guide to birds and tips to birding and conservation, according to a press release.

The birding starter kits came about from a roundtable last year hosted by the Stewardship Centre of B.C. and Bird Studies Canada, and are being supported by WildBirds Unlimited Vancouver and Vortex Optics.

The backpack is part of the library's extreme lending program, which aims to lendĀ out more items that lead to experiences instead of only books and similarĀ media.
