On Our Radar: Write-a-thon a creative chance to support Kamloops Written Arts

If you're all about words, then there's an upcoming event for you.

The Kamloops Society for the Written Arts (KSWA) is holding its first annual write-a-thon, and they're looking for anyone who's interested in writing. It doesn't matter so much the style or way you write, as long as you do it for at least an hour and up to 12.

The event runs Saturday, March 9 and will fill your whole day, if you want it to. With the writing time running from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., there'll be plenty of time to work on the piece of fiction, poetic masterpiece or piecemeal term paper. During the writing period there'll also be music, space for feedback and other activities, with some scheduled each hour.

At the end of it all there'll be an open mic for those who want to read what they've written to a crowd; the open mic, which starts at 8 p.m., is open to the public.

The event is a fundraiser for the KSWA's future events, which include the Words Alive Kamloops Festival. Donations can be collected by participants for their work, either for work per hour or a flat rate. It's simple to join up.

"Email [email protected] with your name, address, phone number and one sentence about why you want to join the absurdity," states the KWSA website. "We’ll send you a pledge package and pre-event updates."
