This beef brought to you by: Mustard Seed launches meal sponsorship program

Why buy a sandwich board when you can buy sandwiches for those experiencing poverty and homelessness in Kamloops instead?

That's what the Mustard Seed New Life Community is asking community businesses, organizations and groups as they launch their Meals Sponsorship program today (April 4).

Urban Systems and the Kamloops Alliance Church were both on hand as the first groups to take part in the program. Urban Systems sponsored today's meal and agreed to sponsor three more meals this year.

“We are impressed with the work of the Mustard Seed New Life Community and their compassion and service for those who need a little extra help,” said Lisa Bruvold, foundation secretary at Urban Systems, in a news release. “Our company knows how a vibrant community can lead to great momentum and people flourishing. Ensuring everyone is supported and given a chance to make an impact is important, and if we can share that message through meal sponsorship, we are so pleased to do so.”

Members of the Kamloops Alliance Church were also there to help serve food and have committed to at least one meal sponsorship in the near future.

For any group, a $1,000 donation will provide lunch to the Outreach Centre's guests; their team will have a tour of the Outreach Centre and then help serve the meals and connect with guests.

“We are so excited to have these community leaders make a commitment to sponsor meals,” said Diane Down, managing director of Mustard Seed, in the release. "This kind of support and hands-on care is not only a way to meaningfully support and encourage our Outreach Centre guests, but in many ways, is transformational to community organizations and business leaders who come to serve. We are so pleased to kick this off today.”
