WolfPack baseball keeps winning over Easter weekend

The Thompson Rivers University (TRU) WolfPack shut out the University of Fraser Valley (UFV) Cascades 8-0 in Abbotsford yesterday (April 22), to take two of three games over Easter weekend.

Weather forced a short outing for both sides, as the game was called after just seven innings. Tyler Moskalyk got the win for the WolfPack, pitching 5.1 innings, striking out four and walking just one. Ty Hodder started for TRU, working 1.2 innings and striking out one.

On offence, the WolfPack were paced by Taylor Van Ham, who had two RBIs on two hits and stole a base.

The win came just one day after TRU and UFV split a doubleheader at Norbrock Stadium.

The WolfPack stormed back to take the first game 10-8, thanks to five runs in the ninth inning. Connor McKenzie, Malik James and Vance Fode all hit homers for TRU, while Brandon Ludwig got the win.

In game two, it was UFV who rallied, clawing back from an early 4-0 deficit to take the game 8-5. Bryant Jameus took the loss for TRU, allowing six earned runs in six innings, walking four batters while striking out two.

While the WolfPack sit at 16-5 after the weekend, they fell out of first place in the Canadian College Baseball Conference after the Okanagan Coyotes went 4-0 over that stretch, to run their record to 17-5.

The two teams vying for first will meet once more before the end of the season, on May 1. Kamloops will also play host to the CCBC championship tournament May 8 to12 at Norbrock Stadium.
